Seva (Community
Service):
Service to ones fellow beings, a cornerstone of Sikhism

As
students we all know how busy we all are with studies and jobs. We hardly
get time to do extra curricular activities. We hardly get time to mingle
within our own community and culture. It is a humble attempt of Sikh
Student Association to make this happen. As you may have already notice
under our events section that we hold various events that bring us closer to our
culture and community. However, there is yet another higher level through
which we can mingle within our own community and culture. And this higher
level is SEWA. Sewa is a cornerstone of Sikhism. Anyone who is
interested in doing Sewa is most welcomed. We are planning to start Sewa
in San Jose and Fremont Gurudrwara. Please email Robbie
Singh at ssa_sjsu@khalsa.com titled SEWA.
Everyone
is encouraged to join us. Just one hour of Seva every week.
Here is a little Math of how much part of our life we will use to do one hour a
week Sewa. There are 168 hours in a week. We do one hours a week
Sewa. That is -
100 - {[(168 - 1)/168]x100} = 0.6
That
means we are only using 0.6 percent of our life to do Sewa.
Few
of us are planning to do Sewa on Wednesdays in
San Jose Gurudwara. We all will be wearing our SSA shirts therefore easy
to spot. Anyone and everyone is welcomed to join us in this noble
deed. Please email us back or simply show up at the San Jose Gurudwara on
Wednesdays.
