Introduction:

The topic of the conference is "Growing up as a Sikh in the Western World"  This topic will encompass and address these five questions.

1.  Who are we?
2.  What do we experience in the Western World?
3.  Why and how does this experience influence us?
4.  How can we make this experience a pleasant one?
5.  Why the west needs Sikh spirit?

This conference is geared towards high school and University students (15 - 30 years old).  The purpose is to bring the Sikh youth together and address the issues of Sikh youth through discussions and presentations.  The goal of this conference to achieve a deeper understanding on the issues concerning the Sikh youth and to discuss the solutions. 

This conference is a day long.  It will include various group discussions, presentations by Sikh youth, and various other interactive presentations such as short movies, images, and music relevant to the topic of discussion.

The conference consists of three sessions:

SESSION 1:
This conference will begin with first few presentations that will introduce the Sikh way of life.  In other words, it will begin with the fundamentals of Sikhism.  This section will also encompass the relationship of Sikh teaching and our present culture.

SESSION 2:
After understanding the fundamentals of Sikhism and its relationship with our present culture, the next section of presentations will address the issues of social nature.  It will specifically address Sikh youth's experience living as a Sikh in the Western World namely United States.  After discussing these experiences the way these experiences influence Sikh youth will be discussed and the question why the West need the Sikh spirit will also be discussed concurrently.

SESSION 3:
The third session will cover the solution of the experiences discussion is session 2 and relate this will the fundamentals of Sikhism discussed in the first session.  Lastly, a revolution will be passed at the end of the conference.  This will address the questions, "
How can we coop with the experience?" and  "What difference can we make within ourselves and around us?"

All the audience will be given a packet before entering the hall.  This packet will include:


1.  A book on Sikhism
2.  Pen and Notebook (for taking notes)
3.  Program Sheet of the presentation
4.  List of resources of websites on Sikhism
5.  All the presentations  on a CD
5.  English translation of Guru Granth Sahib  CD

Light breakfast will be provide in the morning.  Lunch in the afternoon will also be provided.  Tea, coffee, and refreshments will be provided during the break.
